چکیده

Synergies Between Heme Peroxidases and Cellulases in the Bioconversion of Lignocellulosic Feedstocks to Ethanol Christine Kelly, Oregon State University OVERVIEW Forest thinning, particularly forestry wastes composed of softwoods, in the Western region are a major potential source of biomass for biofuel production. However, softwoods, such as Douglas fir, tend to be more resistant to conversion processes due to the high presence of lignin. Dr. Kelly, along with her co-PIs, proposes to develop a new enzyme-mediated bioconversion process technology for more efficient separation of Lignocellulosic biomass into its component parts for bioconversion to ethanol. The team will examine fungal heme peroxidases to discover new “accessory” enzymes that function synergistically with the latest generation of commercially available cellulases to increase the rate and extent of conversion of softwoods to ethanol.

The prospects of cellulase-producing bacteria for the bioconversion of lignocellulosic biomass

Lignocellulosic biomass is a renewable and abundant resource with great potential for bioconversion to value-added bioproducts. However, the biorefining process remains economically unfeasible due to a lack of biocatalysts that can overcome costly hurdles such as cooling from high temperature, pumping of oxygen/stirring, and, neutralization from acidic or basic pH. The extreme environmental res...

A review of structural properties, metabolic function and measurement of peroxidase activity

The production of reactive oxygen species occurs during the natural metabolism of oxidative-breathing cells. Among reactive oxygen species, hydrogen peroxide is more dangerous to cell life due to its long half-life, but it is meanwhile an important regulatory molecule in redox signaling in living things. Peroxidases are one of the key antioxidant enzymes that are widely distributed in nature an...

Improved yield of α-L-arabinofuranosidase by newly isolated Aspergillus niger ADH-11 and synergistic effect of crude enzyme on saccharification of maize stover

Background: In the view of depleting resources and ever-increasing price of crude oil, there is an urge for the development of alternative sources to solve the issue of fuel in the coming years. Lignocellulosic biomass is considered to be the most potential alternative resources for fossil fuel. Bioconversion of cellulosic and hemicellulosic components into fermentable sugars is the key step in...

Cloning of the White-rot Fungus Phanerochaete Chrysosporium Manganese Peroxidase Gene (mnp2) into the Methylotrophic Yeast Pichia Pastoris

Introduction In the future, the use of plant biomass as a feedstock for chemical synthesis may become more widespread. Approximately 95% of plant biomass is composed of lignocellulosic material. Lignocellulose typically contains 50% cellulose, 25% hemicellulose and 25% lignin. Lignin is a stereoirregular polymer that protects cellulose and hemicellulose from enzymatic hydrolysis. Microorganisms...

Optimization of cellulolytic enzyme components through engineering Trichoderma reesei and on-site fermentation using the soluble inducer for cellulosic ethanol production from corn stover

Background Cellulolytic enzymes produced by Trichoderma reesei are widely studied for biomass bioconversion, and enzymatic components vary depending on different inducers. In our previous studies, a mixture of glucose and disaccharide (MGD) was developed and used to induce cellulase production. However, the enzymatic profile induced by MGD is still not defined, and further optimization of the e...
